Louis Vuitton SS27: Surf’s Up
Pharrell Williams took the fashion set to the beach for Louis Vuitton’s latest collection.
Picture yourself in a crossover movie with Baywatch and The Great Gatsby. One minute, you’re catching the last afternoon waves; the next, you’re raising a glass of Aperol Spritz at a black-tie cocktail party. On the surface, these worlds couldn’t be more different. Yet Pharrell’s idea of travel has never been about journeying from one destination to another, but about the cultural exchange that happens along the way — shaped by people, heritage and lifestyles.

“Dandy Surferboy” is perhaps the simplest way to describe creative director Pharrell Williams’ latest collection: an intersection of global surf and skate culture with the luxurious craftsmanship of tailored suiting. It is a wardrobe that asks what happens when the nonchalance of the beach meets the precision of formal dressing.

What emerged from the waves was a procession of tailored suits with a soft, fluid attitude, alongside dressed-up knitwear that complemented the laid-back silhouettes. Then came a series of playful yet considered details: monogrammed wetsuits, surfboards and relaxed summer shorts, blurring the line between performance wear and luxury fashion. Denim played a key role in the collection, from shell-embellished, sun-faded jeans to utilitarian patchwork jackets that evoked the keepsakes of a life spent by the sea.

But beneath the surfboards and sun-faded denim was something more distinctly Pharrell: a fascination with how cultures travel, overlap and become something new. At Louis Vuitton, the beach was never simply a destination. It became a meeting point — where surf culture, tailoring and luxury could exist in the same wardrobe, without one having to give way to the other.
