Burberry Presents 170 Portraits For Its 170th Anniversary
Burberry is celebrating its 170th anniversary in a major way.
What comes to mind when one thinks of Burberry? For most of us, it is probably the iconic trench coat. This year, the British fashion powerhouse is celebrating its 170th anniversary with a campaign, ‘170: The Anniversary Portraits’. The hero of the campaign? Burberry’s outerwear.

Photographed by London-based photographer Jack Day, the new campaign unfolds across key design capitals around the world — London, New York, Seoul and Shanghai — and draws inspiration from the house’s 2009 ‘Art of the Trench’ campaign.
This time, 170 individuals put their own spin on ten outerwear designs. Alongside street castings of locals from each city and long-standing members of Burberry’s global team, the campaign features personalities from the worlds of art, literature, sport and music, including musician Crush, English footballer Nico O’Reilly and Chinese director Xin Shuang. Each portrait depicts its subject standing on the street they call home, showcasing how a piece can take on a different meaning in different contexts.

“For 170 years, our outerwear has adapted to the weather and the way we dress. Each portrait is different, but together they capture individuality and self-expression, ” Daniel Lee, Burberry’s chief creative officer, shared in press notes.
